Reachtáil Glór Cheatharlach an chéad Coláiste Samhraidh i mBaile Cheatharlach i 2009 agus b’iontach mar a d’éirigh leis an coicíos. D’fhreastal seasca dalta idir aois dhá bhliain déag agus ocht mbliana déag ar an gcoláiste agus nach iad a bhain taitneamh as an taithí Gaeltachta seo. Thángadar ó Cheatharlach, Cill Chainnigh, Cill Dara, Loch Garman agus Laois. Is i nGaelcholáiste Cheatharlach a bhí na himeachtaí go léir lonnaithe.

Cuirtear ranganna Gaeilge le meascán maith de chomhrá agus gramadach, plé agus diospóireacht in oiriúint do na daltaí ar fáil dóibh gach lá. Bíonn na daltaí roinnte i ndá rannóg-grúpa sóisearach agus grúpa sinsearach. Chomh maith leis na ranganna bíonn rogha maith d’imeachtaí cultúrtha, spórt agus cluichí ar an gclár. I measc na n-imeachtaí spóirt bíonn cispheil, peil, leadóg, eitpheil agus scuais . Ina theannta sin, bíonn seans ag na daltaí tarraingt ar a gcuid eolais ginearálta ag tráth na gceist boird agus baineann siad an-taithneamh as na céilithe.

Coláiste Samhraide‘Sé an smaoineamh atá taobh thiar den Choláiste Samhraidh ná a thaispeáint do na daltaí gur féidir le daoine óga spórt agus spraoi a bhaint as an teanga a fhoghlamaíonn siad ar scoil lá i ndiaidh lae. Tugtar deis dóibh chomh maith cur lena gcuid líofachta sa teanga agus casadh le cairde nua trí Ghaeilge. Is taithí Ghaeltachta í an Coláiste Samhraidh gan na costasaí móra céanna agus gan imeacht as baile.

Clár an tSamhraidh, clár gnóthach lán de spraoi do Glór Cheatharlach!

Glór Cheatharlach ran its first ever Irish Summer College in Carlow in the summer of 2009. The Coláiste Samhraidh was held in Gaelcholáiste Cheatharlach and was a huge success with sixty students aged between 12 and 18 years taking part and really enjoying the Gaeltacht type experience. Students travelled from throughout County Carlow as well as from counties Kilkenny, Kildare, Wexford and Laois to take part.

Students take part in Irish classes each day with a mixture of Coláiste Samhraideconversation, grammar, discussion and debating. They are placed in senior and junior courses. They participate in a number of sporting and cultural activities each day including basketball, football, soccer, volleyball and squash. They get the opportunity to show off their general knowledge at the fun Irish table quiz and of course they enjoy the céilí sessions.

The idea behind the Coláiste Samhraidh is to show the students that they can have fun and enjoy the Irish language. They are given the opportunity to improve their vocabulary and language skills and to make new friends through Irish. The Coláiste Samhraidh is based on the summer college experience of An Ghaeltacht without the expense and without having to leave the comforts of home behind.

Summer time , a busy time, an enjoyable time for Glór Cheatharlach!
